Clean but not clean

Perhaps, we are better off cleaning the house we are renting ourselves...

We have a cleaner who comes twice a month to clean the house. She only speaks Dutch, so I always have my phone handy to translate and to keep up with the conversation in case we want something specific to be cleaned. This is for instances when I happen to be awake when she comes.

The first time we thought she was good. Impressively tucking in the sofa sheets and neatly arranging the pillows. She cleans only for an hour and a half, even less, which for me is too fast. The past weeks though, seemed to be off. The “clean,” which we thought was good, was only for what we see but not for every nook and cranny. 

Sofas are not moved when she cleans, the bathroom floor is not scrubbed, hallways are not cleaned unless you tell her to, and used mops and sheets are not washed after. The black stain on the stove, which had been lingering there for weeks, was still there. 

She won’t come until next week. In this coming Christmas holiday, we are left to clean everything before guests arrive.
